Can you put a tiny home in your backyard in BC?
In much of BC, yes, through the garden-suite or laneway-home pathway. The dependable permanent route is a CSA A277 modular unit certified to the BC Building Code: Surrey, Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna, and the Tri-Cities all permit detached backyard dwellings on many single-family lots, and provincial small-scale multi-unit housing legislation has pushed municipalities across BC to enable more homes per lot. A tiny home on wheels is a different case: it places under RV and pad rules, not as a permanent dwelling, and treatment varies by municipality.
